A Journey to the Seychelles – A Few Years Back
A few years ago, a trip to the Seychelles became an unforgettable escape into one of the most enchanting corners of the planet. This island nation, scattered like emeralds across the Indian Ocean, is a paradise of powdery beaches, turquoise lagoons, and lush green peaks. From the moment the journey began, it was clear that the Seychelles was not just a place to visit—it was a place to feel, to breathe, and to remember.
First Impressions
Stepping off the plane at Mahé’s small, sunlit airport, the air was warm and scented with salt and tropical flowers. The slow rhythm of island life was immediately apparent. Driving along winding coastal roads revealed dramatic granite cliffs, palm-fringed coves, and stretches of untouched sand that seemed far removed from the busy modern world.
Island-Hopping Adventures
The Seychelles is not a single island but an archipelago, and each destination offered its own charm:
Mahé – The largest island and the heart of the nation. Between hikes in Morne Seychellois National Park and strolls through the colorful markets of Victoria, there was no shortage of cultural and natural wonders.
Praslin – A short ferry ride away, Praslin offered the soft sands of Anse Lazio, often ranked among the world’s best beaches, and the mystical Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO site where giant coco de mer palms grow.
La Digue – The very definition of laid-back island life. With few cars and plenty of bicycles, it was a place to explore at leisure. The iconic granite boulders of Anse Source d’Argent made it a photographer’s dream.
Unforgettable Moments
Days were spent snorkeling in coral-rich lagoons, sipping fresh coconuts on shaded beaches, and watching fiery sunsets melt into the horizon. Nights were filled with the sound of gentle waves and skies blanketed with stars. Each day felt both full and unhurried—a rare balance that made the experience even more precious.
How to Get There
Reaching the Seychelles is easier than its remote beauty suggests:
1. By Air – The Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) on Mahé connects with major hubs such as Dubai, Doha, Paris, and Johannesburg. Travelers from farther afield often connect via the Middle East or Europe.
2. Entry Policy – The Seychelles welcomes visitors of all nationalities without the need for a visa. A valid passport, proof of accommodation, and an onward ticket are all that’s required.
3. Island Transfers – Ferries link Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. High-speed services like Cat Cocos make the journey comfortable, while domestic flights offer a scenic, faster alternative.
Why It Stays in the Heart
Years later, the memories remain vivid—the quiet beaches, the laughter of locals, the feeling of wading into warm, crystal-clear waters. The Seychelles is not just a place of beauty; it’s a reminder that some parts of the world still move at a slower, gentler pace.
It is a destination that lingers in the mind long after departure, as if the islands themselves leave behind a small piece of their peace and magic.
